SúperNovae is a collaborative and politically conscious music project by Ioanna Marathefti and Keryl “KK” Brown. Blending original compositions with global musical influences, the project brings together a diverse array of artists to create a rich, cross-cultural sound.

Driven by a deep passion for social justice, SúperNovae channels political awareness into powerful music that transcends boundaries and fosters unity. Their work explores urgent themes such as racial discrimination, political corruption, and social inequality—revealing the profound connections between personal experience and systemic structures.

Musically, SúperNovae draws from Afro-Brazilian traditions, weaving rhythms like maracatu and samba afro as well as Anatolian rhythms, into their work fused with rock, punk, funk, hip hop. The project combines traditional Brazilian instruments—including surdos, alfaia, gonguê, agogô, xequerê, and caracaxá, with electric guitar, bass and drum kit, and at times darbuka/toumperleki, resulting in a sound that is both grounded in heritage and boldly contemporary.
